There is something about Keith that in
endearing both as a person and as a
performer. His sophomore CD shows
how well he can handle a rocker and a
sensitive ballad. The stand out tracks
are "Crazy Over You" with Foster and
Lloyd and Keith's take on the Big &
Rich hit, "Lost In This Moment." A very
good effort that will do good business.
Johnny Cash was relevant up until the
point when he died. So it is beyond me
why it needed untalented hip hop/rap
artists like Snoop Dog to f**k up what
were perfectly good tracks. There was
no need to try and breathe new life into
them because they weren't dead!! This
is one of the most pointless CDs to
have emerged since CDs were
created!!! John Carter Cash what the
hell were you thinking. Your dad was
the greatest. He doesn't deserve this
sh*t. What is next? Are we going to see
your mom's work turned into disco.
Leave it alone and use your own not
inconsiderable talent to create your
own original CDs.
Martina McBride goes from strength to
strength. On this live outing, she
reveals that she has a deft hand as a
producer. In fact, with the one
exception of the one CD produced by
husband John ("Timeless"), this is the
best produced of all her CDs. The DVD
shows what a great stage performer
she is. Not showy but just totally
confident. If every teen wants to be
Hannah Montana the every woman
dreams of being Martina. The joy on
the faces of the women in the audience
has to be seen to be believed.

This is by far the best CD that Eddie
and Troy have released. "One In Every
Crowd" is in the same vein as "Billy's
Got His Beer Goggles On" while "One
Trip" is deeeep. A sure fire single must
be the duet with Toby Keith, "I Pick My
Parties." An honorable mention needs
to be made of the duet with Lillie Mae
Rische of Jypsi entitled "God Knows
Who I Am." Good stuff guys.
I reviewed this CD back in March
before Steve's CD found a label outlet.
It sounds like it has gotten a bit of a
remix or else I am in a better mood. I
also interviewed Steve and got inside
his musical head. When Steve sings
songs such as "Everything Beautiful To
Me" he is so damn soulful. I wish more
of the album was like that. With ohn
Rich and Mike Bradford producing the
quality is of course there. It does get
better each listen.
I've always liked Ricochet and I think if
Lonestar hadn't happened at the same
time, then they might have been at the
top longer. Although most of the band
is new and the Bryant Brothers have
moved on, Ricochet still sounds good.
Their harmonies are still impeccable.
They just need another career single.
The trouble is that "Daddy's Money" is
still their strongest cut. Still this is a
good introduction of a very fine band
to new listeners.

The one big problem with Tracylyn is
that she phrases like a pop singer and
not a Country performer which tends to
make her singing too precise.
Producers need to watch that as it
sounds like she is reading the lyrics.
Also, the cover photographs are very
iffy. recommendation? Go back into the
studio and re-record her voice allowing
it to breathe.
Shane reminds me a tad of Garth and
this totally self-penned CD is very
workmanlike and should point to a very
promising career. He is Country and
that is OK in my books. I plan to keep
an eye out for this talented young man.
Words really fail me. I don't know
where to begin with what is wrong with
this CD. Now I should explain, I like
Willie Mack but on this CD, he just
missed the boat production wise. I like
Rustie but the live feel in her voice just
wasn't there. Finally, the photographs
are just awful. Most of the songs are
good especially those by Gilles
Goddard but they deserved better
production.

I never understood why Trick Pony
never became big because they were
way more talented and more
entertaining than either Sugarland or
Lady Antebellum but such is the state
of Country music. On this her debut
solo CD, Heidi proves that she is ready
to duke it out with the current female
singers. She even plays some
delicious harp which was a standout in
Trick Pony. "Johnny and June" is
already soaring up the singles chart
and this CD is doing well. Tony Brown,
as one would expect, has done an ace
production jobs and the songs, mainly
co-written by Heidi, are as good as any
written nowadays. I'm not sure whether
"Knocked Up" could be released as a
single but it does remind me of the
feminist songs of Loretta Lynn. The
one negative is the poor level of
photographs. Seeing studio umbrellas
in Heidi's sun glasses is neither cool
nor professional. How Curb accepted
them is a big mystery!!
I like Jimmy Wayne's voice and that's
why I was always amazed that his
previous label, DreamWorks couldn't
get it right on his debut CD. He is now
with Valory, an imprint of Big Machine
and sad to say this label hasn't got it
right. Most of the songs were written by
Joe West and Dave Pahanish who also
mainly produced the CD.
Unfortunately, Messrs. West and
Pahanish use the kitchen sink method
of production. There is a phrase less is
more and that would make this CD
sound better. Another complaint are
the graphics. When are graphic
designers going to create a booklet
that can actually be read without a
magnifying glass? I believe that in an
attempt to make this CD radio friendly,
the producers have made it bland.
When I interviewed Trailer Choir I was
falling about laughing. Big Vinny,
Butter and Crystal are great people
and if you like Big & Rich with a little bit
of hip hop, you'll have a ball with this
EP. They guys describe their music as
“Back yard BBQ in hi-def, Straight up
Country." I describe it as Run DMC on
high energy. Trailer Choir can be
heard and seen in Toby Keith's new
movie,"Beer For My Horses." Yes I am
a Trailer Choir fanatic!!!

This is a marvellous collection of
unreleased duets. Seven of the tracks
were produced by Brian Ahern and
came out of the 1994 project "The
Bradley Barn Sessions" while Billy
Sherrill produced three tracks that
didn't make the cut for the 1988 album,
"Friends In High Places." The other
two; a duet with Tammy was found in
the Epic vaults whilst the duet with
daughter, Georgette is a more recent
recording. She proves that she is a
chip off the George/Tammy block with
a beautifully crafted song "You And Me
And Time."

George's strength, like Willie Nelson, is
that he can sing with performers in
non-Country genres and still sound like
George and the track still sounds
Country.

My favorites? How about every track!
This may be the best ever CD of cuts
that missed the cut. Now this should be
at #1 instead of some of the pop
rubbish that modern fans and record
labels think is Country. If they want to
peddle their tripe just get the hell out of
Nashville!!! This is REAL (not old)
COUNTRY!! These are real songs not
the shit that Country radio drools over.

THIS IS MY ALBUM OF THE MONTH
Whenever I see written by, produced
by the artist, I got somewhat wary.
However, Keith proves to be an able
single and songwriter and not a bad
producer. This CD steps in that area
between Country-Rock and Americana.
In fact, there is something of the Keith
Urban about him. This is a worth
hearing CD.
Kenny has this innate ability to record
songs that keep making him the
comeback kid. On this CD released by
Cracker Barrel, he has a lot of his
biggies  plus a trio of songs produced
by Tony Brown that come from Kenny's
new association with Capitol Nashville. I
guess my only complaint but it is a
positive one is why couldn't it have
been a double CD or even better for a
CD entitled "50 Years," 50 tracks. Still,
for anyone without a KR CD in their
collection this is a first rate one with
which to start.

A lot of current bands try to sound like
Country-Rock bands of the 70's and
fail miserably. However Randy Rogers
and his guys are truly a throwback to
the likes of the Eagles, Little Feat and
the likes. This may in part be due the
fact the Randy is from Texas and there
is always something special about
musicians from the Lone Star State. It
may also be due to the fact the CD is
produced by fellow Texan, Radney
Foster who was and is no slouch as a
recording artist as a solo and as one
half of Foster & Lloyd who laid a lot of
the groundwork for today's music from
Texas. Randy is a cut above a lot of
the songwriters who currently inhabit
Music City and that is why I not only
enjoyed this CD but I also predict that
RRB could be the next big happening
artist to emerge
.
Listening to this album is like listening
to the first Bob Dylan album back in the
60's. It is more folky than I have heard
Emmylou for some while. The
production by Brian Ahern (and isn't it
good to see him back) is stripped down
and that highlights Emmylou's crystal
clear voice. There are some interesting
guests including Dolly Parton, Vince
Gill and Kate and Anna McGarrigle.
The latter also contributing a couple of
co-writes with Emmylou. Writing is a
major strength here with Emmylou
writing four songs and others coming
from Billy Joe Shaver, Merle Haggard,
Patty Griffin and Tracy Chapman. Jack
Wesley Routh, Jude Johnstone and
J.C. Crowley round out this collection
of excellent songwriters.
While Country female singers currently
try to blow your head off, this is a quiet
collection that will south your mind.
One day, someone will pair up
Emmylou with Patty Loveless to
achieve the perfect album. This is a
CD to keep and cherish.
I didn't think that they made albums like
this anymore. In fact, I didn't think any
producers in Nashville still had the
knack. This is the Patty that I feel in
love with at the time of "Wicked Ways."
It is possible that Patty is one of the
few real female Country singers
around. Forget all the shit that is put
out in the name of Country music. Hey
Nashville listen up. This is the real
deal. Now I know that Vince is in there
somewhere as well as my friend Harold
Bradley but as I have a promo copy I
don't have the low down on who else is
playing. I will repeat what I said on
Emmylou's CD. Get Patty and Emmylou
together. Final thought. At times Patty
reminds me of Hazel Dickens.
